Though working in a large array of disciplines, artists frequently flirt with the dimensional, purposefully or not. We build our ideas, always looking for one moment of shared clarity, beyond words, located within the depth of creative drive, intellectual exploration, or years of passionate dedication to our craft. We manipulate space, or the illusion of it. We prop up, we pare down, we seek to create the object or to deny it, we express, we refine…
This year, the sculpture department decided to host a cross-disciplinary sculpture exhibition to showcase the talent of graduate students working dimensionally from a wide range of artistic perspectives. We are interested in depth of concept, the materiality of process as well as the object and the spatial, and wanted to include works that show cohesion of the artistic endeavor itself. We feel that sculpture is a catch all, in the best sense, with enough room to house the largest, most ambitious creative drive. It is all a means to an end.
