National Health Care Decisions Day
Sequoya Library 4340 Tokay Blvd., Madison, Wisconsin 53711
press release: Sequoya Library, along with other national, state and community organizations, is highlighting the importance of advance care planning at a special event for National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD)-April 16. Watch a documentary screening of the 29-minute PBS documentary Nine to Ninety. In this film, 89-year-old Phyllis challenges the taboo about talking about death as she and her family makes a decision about end-of-life care. Following the film, Erin Aagesen, Community Engagement and Evaluation Specialist at Honoring Choices Wisconsin, will facilitate a discussion on advance care planning (ACP), a process of understanding, reflecting and discussing end-of-life preferences. ACP is for all adults, regardless of age or health status. “Through our National Healthcare Decisions Day activities, we hope more people in our community will be able to engage in thoughtful conversations about advance care planning and make their health care wishes known,” said Aagesen. Honoring Choices Wisconsin (HCW) is a major initiative to build system change, advocacy, and education around advance care planning, in clinical settings and in the community.
