Middleton Library 7425 Hubbard Ave., Middleton, Wisconsin 53562
The 2015 Origami by Children Exhibition will be featured in the glass display case in the library’s lobby. This traveling exhibit from the national organization Origami USA features 54 winners ages 5-18. Five countries are represented: Canada, Singapore, South Korea, Ukraine and from the United States. Six of the young winners represented are from Wisconsin: 3 from Madison, 1 from Milwaukee, 1 from Janesville and 1 from Holmen. This is a remarkable collection – the quality of the individual works is truly outstanding!
A very exciting event will be taking place on December 12 – an origami open house at the Middleton Public Library from 1-4pm. It’s the fifth anniversary of a permanent public installation -- the origami mural “Dimensions” that is on permanent display above the library’s circulation desk. Five years ago Shirwil Lukes and Ruthanne Bessman designed a mural that was folded by 250 participants aged 4-94. Comprised of over 3,000 pieces of paper, 2,577 models form a mural 5 feet high and 30 feet long.
To celebrate this occasion the local origami group The MadCity Folders will teach a variety of simple models to all ages and skill levels. The event will take place in the library’s Archer Room on the lower level. Registration is not required.
