press release: On Saturday, May 14, 2016 Cuidándonos Creceremos más Sanos (CCmaS) “Growing Healthier Together” will host a Pampering Day for the Latino community as part of Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin’s (PPWI) focus on preventing teen pregnancy and providing important information on preventive health care. This event is free and open to the public.
The event will feature essential health information and mini educational workshops designed to facilitate discussions about maintaining personal health, sexuality across the lifespan and talking with children about health.
After the information sessions, the real pampering begins! Participants can choose from a variety of free events including: Zumba, self-defense, meditation, massage, makeover, manicure, haircut and styling. Breakfast, lunch and raffle prizes are available. There will also be childcare so parents can participate in all events.
This event is designed with the whole family in mind: mothers, fathers, adolescents, and young children will be able to enjoy fun, age appropriate activities at Pampering Day.
CCmas is a Spanish language sexual and reproductive health program developed by and for Latino communities across Wisconsin. The award-winning program, launched in 2003, is led and facilitated by Health Promoters, who are neighborhood and community leaders trained extensively by Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin to deliver sexual and reproductive health education. The program provides preventive steps and educational tools people need to take charge of their health.
Programs include Home Health Parties, which are presented by PPWI Health Promoters in small groups of friends or family. One objective of these gatherings is to increase participants’ comfort and confidence in talking about sexual and reproductive health in order to take control of their own health care through effective and empowering communications with their doctors, children and families.
Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin thanks all the organizations who made this event possible: Taquería Guadalajara, Inka Heritage, Hubbard Avenue Diner and Bakery, La Rosita grocery store, Tienda Los Gemelos, Pancake Café, El Poblano, La Bamba, Just for U Salon, Sole Unique Salon, Latino Hair Salon, as well as the sales associates of Mary Kay, Datt Express Madison, UNIDOS Against Domestic Violence, Rape Crisis Center, Centro Hispano Madison and all of our volunteers.
