The Paradox of Being a Black Police Officer in Today’s Society
press release: Madison Police Officer Corey Saffold will share his experiences as a Black police officer in today’s society at the Verona Public Library on Thursday, August 9, from 7 to 8 p.m. Officer Saffold will discuss the challenges of being a Black officer during a time when police are often not trusted, especially among the African-American community, in the wake of multiple highly-publicized killings of unarmed African-Americans by police officers. In addition, Officer Saffold will share his personal experiences with law enforcement and his strategies for engaging the community at large.
Officer Saffold is a School Liaison Officer at Madison West High School and is known in the community for his volunteerism and his work with youth of all ages and demographic backgrounds.
