press release: With the current renaissance of black and white photography, new opportunities for artistic expression have opened to the creative photographer using digital technology.
In the absence of the color palette, the visual impact of black and white images relies solely on the scale of tones between pure black and pure white - the 256 shades of grey.
The 23 participating photographers in this Lowell Center exhibit are all members of PhotoMidwest's Black and White Special Interest Group.
With these images, the 23 photographers demonstrate not only their love for black and white photography but also how to skillfully use all 256 shades of grey, the range of tones from dark to light, to create 23 incredibly unique and beautiful images.
These photographers are: Warren Buckles, Eloisa Callender, Reece Donihi, Marty Drapkin, Daniel Alan Ely, John P. Gauder, Marcia Getto, Mark Golbach, Ken Halfmann, Larry Hands, Peter Hewson, Sean Lamb, Bill Lane, Tim Mulcahy, Trevor Passmore, Sharkey Plender, Christopher Priebe, Mike Rausch, David Scadlock, Jim Sterne, Donald Sylvester, James Thornberry, and Kurt Westbrook.
Their exhibit will run through October in the lobby of the Lowell Center. There will be a reception on the Fall Gallery Night, Friday, Oct. 7. Watch this space for more information and time for the reception.
