Pinney Library Public Art Presentations

press release: Over 120 people submitted applications during Madison Public Library’s call for public art for two permanent installations. The selected jurors have narrowed it down to six finalists who will introduce their art concepts during two public presentations on Wednesday, May 1 and Wednesday, May 8.
The Madison Public Library received funding through the Madison Arts Commission’s Art in Public Places Program and a donation from the Madison Public Library Foundation for the two unique pieces that will be installed as permanent public art in the newly built Pinney Library.
Public Art Piece #1 will be installed as a two or three-dimensional mounted artwork for the new library’s Reading Room, a space intended for contemplation. Finalists include: Yeonhee Cheong; pARTS Collaboration: Caleb Weisnicht and Robin Good; and Maria Amalia Wood.
Public presentations for this Public Art Piece #1 will take place at YMCA [711 Cottage Grove Rd] on Wednesday, May 1 from 7:00-8:00pm.

Public Art Piece #2 will be a site-specific piece will be installed as a sculptural element for the outdoor courtyard, creating a fence, wall, or other demarcation of the library’s exterior courtyard space, primarily used by children and families. Finalists include: Peter Krsko, Michael Velliquette, and Erick “CK” Ledesma.
Public presentations for Public Art Piece #2 will take place at YMCA [711 Cottage Grove Rd] on Wednesday, May 8 from 7:00-8:00pm.

Finalists will be selected by a jury and results will be announced at the end of April. Selected artist(s) will begin planning and beginning fabrication for any new pieces in May 2019.
