Prairie du Sac Hydroelectric Generating Station Tours
press release: For the third consecutive year, Alliant Energy is opening the Prairie du Sac Dam for public tours. Visitors can get a special inside look at the 102-year-old hydroelectric facility during the fourth weekend in September.
“We continue to get requests for public tours, and we’re pleased that we can offer them again,” said Amanda Blank, Alliant Energy Site Manager of Hydroelectric and Gas Generation. “The tours have been sold out for the past two years. We encourage interested people to schedule now since we expect time slots to fill up quickly.”
The tours will begin and end at the Tripp Heritage Museum, 565 Water Street, Prairie du Sac. Participants will take a five-minute bus ride from the museum to the facility for the 90-minute tour. For those waiting to depart, the museum will feature a display commemorating the dam and the corresponding formation of Lake Wisconsin. It costs $5 for adults and children, and all proceeds support the Sauk Prairie Area Historical Society’s programs.
The tours will take place from 3 to 6 p.m., Friday, September 23, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, September 24 and Sunday, September 25. Reservations will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Tour directors will include retired and current Prairie du Sac Dam employees. Photos will be allowed in all areas of the facility.
