Bonny Doon
With Proud Parents, Dusk, ts foss.
Mickey's Tavern 1524 Williamson St., Madison, Wisconsin 53703
Hazy twangers from the Motor City, Bonny Doon sounds like a slacked-out mashup of Beachwood Sparks and Madison alt-country legends Charlemagne — at least, judging by their ace new self-titled long-player. The sleeper bill of the week also includes Dusk, a country-fried Appleton outfit including members of world-beaters Tenement; local garage-pop wonders Proud Parents; and acoustic bedroom pop by ts foss.

Early praise for Bonny Doon: “…Bonny Doon is indie folk perfection, 11 songs that are somehow both sun and shadow, swathing listeners in the pleasant ache of longing.” Detroit Metro Times
“It’s an impressive bit of songwriting that marks Bonny Doon’s Bill Lennox as a worthy torchbearer for figures like David Berman, Bill Callahan, and Stephen Malkmus.” Stereogum
“…proof that Detroit’s softer rock bands deserve as much attention as the loudest ones.” Pitchfork
“Bonny Doon, a rock band from Detroit, makes songs that are a little sad and a little psychedelic. The vibe reminds me of some of my favorite freak folk records…” The FADER
“…Bonny Doon, built around the songwriting duo of Bill Lennox and Bobby Colombo, isn't descended either from The Stooges' hard rock or from Motown. Instead, the band boasts a mix of hazy pop gems that gather strength from Lennox's sharp lyrics.” NPR’s World Cafe
“Loose and languid country rock isn't the first music style that comes to mind when Detroit pops up in conversation. But while Bonny Doon sound like they could come from the beaches of California or the woods of Massachusetts, over the last few years, the four-piece have established a solid position in the Detroit music scene.” Noisey
“Sunlit arrangements, at times freewheeling and at others resigned, mask lyrics of longing, apathy, and ‘contentment in simply letting go.’” Hype Machine “…weariness and finding ways to accept it and move on, if possible, inform a large part of the sound and themes of Bonny Doon.” The 4O5
