Rally Against Sexual Assault
press release: On Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 6:30 pm. students, campus workers, and community members will gather at Bascom Hill for a rally against sexual assault. Over 350 people are currently committed to attend. The Madison Branch of the International Socialist Organization (ISO) called the rally after the arrest of a UW student made national headlines. Alec Cook has since been charged with 15 crimes against five different women, including sexual assault, strangulation, and false imprisonment.
We hope to remind the campus and the community at large that we have a shared responsibility for ensuring one another's safety and for fighting against sexual assault and violence against women. UW administrators, law enforcement, students, and the Madison community must listen to women and take them seriously when they report feeling unsafe.
The rally will last for approximately 90 minutes and will feature a slate of speakers from collaborating organizations, including the International Socialist Organization, Socialist Alternative, TAA - Graduate Worker Union of UW-Madison, UW Blackout, and If/When/How: Lawyering for Reproductive Justice. Everyone is encouraged to attend.
