Headlining Speaker: Brandi Grayson is a Black Community organizer & activist with over a decade of experience in racial justice and program development movement work. Her passion for developing programs to build capacity within marginalized communities has led her to work on police brutality, economic justice, racial justice and civil rights campaigns. She co-founded the Young Gifted & Black Coalition, which was instrumental in organizing direct actions in response to the murder of Tony Robinson. She currently serves as the executive director of Urban Triage.
Performance by: Drum Power teaches youth leadership through learning West African, Afro-Cuban and Afro-Brazilian drumming and dance. Yorel Lashley, a professional West African, Afro-Cuban, and Brazilian percussionist and member of the Kankouran and Harambee West African Dance Companies, is the founder and instructor.
Performance by: K Sankofa is an up-and-coming Rap Artist who originally hails from the Watts neighborhood of South Central Los Angeles California. While attending UW-Madison, his took a calling to student activism with the purpose of enhancing conditions for students of color on his campus. The name K. SANKOFA is based on an African proverb that means go back and get what you may have left behind.
All Styles Dance Battle: Three age brackets (middle school, high school, 17 & older) will compete with prizes for top performers. Music by DJ 40 Roundz.
Social Justice Song Competition: Enjoy performances of original material. Top performers will be awarded prizes, including a first place prize of $500! The RULES: Ages 11 - 20 (solo or group acts) are eligible to enter the competition. Songs or spoken word performances are to be no longer than 3 minutes/33 seconds in length.
