Richard Diller
Verona Library 500 Silent St., Verona, Wisconsin 53593
In 1969, Richard (Dick) Diller was flying warplanes in the Vietnam conflict. He was commissioned to fly A-1 Skyraiders, and flew 203 missions, mostly at night, over Laos. Diller will talk about his wartime experiences and discuss his book Firefly, A Skyraider’s Story at the Verona Public Library on Monday, September 19, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Firefly is the story of one man’s journey in a world at war, and a day-to-day description of the fighting force that was flying A-1 Skyraiders in combat. Dillard will discuss why Laos was defined as a “secret war”, and will talk about conducting operations in a high-threat area, finding targets at night, and supporting one side of what was essentially a civil war. Books will be available for sale and signing.
This presentation is offered in conjunction with the traveling exhibit Working Warriors: Military Life Beyond Combat, on display at the Verona Public Library from September 7 through October 6.
