Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical
Children's Theater of Madison

Like most Roald Dahl protagonists, 5-year-old Matilda lives in a world turned upside down. Her flim-flam man father and screeching, dance-obsessed mother are annoyed with the young girl’s fascination with reading, preferring that she turn off her mind and watch TV instead. And things aren’t much better at school. The tyrannical Miss Trunchbull is a bully who delights in terrifying students and fellow teachers alike. But with a fertile imagination and surprising supernatural powers, Matilda fights back against the mean-spirited and indifferent adults who surround her. She even cultivates an important friendship with another teacher, Miss Honey. The musical is packed with high-energy song and dance numbers, and a charming class of underdog students who make sure the bad guys get their comeuppance in the end. Directed by local favorite Brian Cowing, Children’s Theater of Madison’s season opener should be a magical experience.
