Harmonious Wail draws from the rich musical influence of the European gypsy musicians, most notably Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, while bringing in crowd-pleasing vocal performances in the tradition of bands such as The Manhattan Transfer and Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks.
The Harmonious Wail trio plays jazz, be-bop and Gypsy Swing, featuring smoky vocals, original and cover songs and magnetic audience rapport. Be sure not to miss lead singer Maggie Delaney-Potthoff playing her cardboard box drum and a pair of scissors for a series of unique and perfectly-blended sounds. Bandleader Sims Delaney-Potthoff plays guitar, mandolin and ukulele, while Jeff Weiss plays stand-up bass and electric bass.
In 2016, Harmonious Wail is celebrating its 29th anniversary as a working band. In August 2013, the trio released its 8th CD of incredible music, “Bohemian Tango.” The band completed a 10-day working tour in Ireland last fall. Another CD is in the works and is slated for release in 2016.
Robin Nolan Trio: One of today's most prolific masters of the genre, Robin Nolan comes to us from Amsterdam but is at home on the world stage. Nolan is one of the world’s best known and most admired gypsy jazz guitarists and has headlined every major gypsy jazz festival around the globe. He is also a passionate gypsy guitar instructor and is well-known for his extensive portfolio of teaching tools - including his book series and "Secrets of Gypsy Jazz" online videos which have introduced thousands to the genre. The trio features Robin's brother Kevin Nolan on rhythm guitar and Arnoud Vandenberg on bass.
