media release: The Social Justice Center (SJC) is thrilled to announce our upcoming Jubilee celebration! Mark your calendars for an evening of community, celebration, and renewal as we embrace the theme of our "Re-Birthday."
Date: Saturday, October 5, 2024, 4-9pm, The Social Justice Center, 1202 Williamson St. Madison, WI 53703
The inaugural SJC Jubilee took place in 2019, transforming the area outside the Social Justice Center into a vibrant celebration of music and community. This day-long festival featured 12 local artists across a wide range of musical genres, from bluegrass and singer/songwriter to rap, electronic, and punk rock, showcasing the incredible talent within Madison.
Also, explore the Jackie Macaulay Gallery and help 608 Arts create a showpiece for our January 2025 exhibit: You Are Here. We want participants to make individual cd sculptures that we'll integrate into a large art piece to be on exhibit until March. While you make art, you can listen to great live music, sample snacks and beverages, and indulge in raffles as part of The Social Justice Center Jubilee Re-birthday bash.
In 2020, despite the challenges of the pandemic, we adapted by hosting a virtual event that continued the tradition of celebrating our local arts scene while supporting artists and businesses in our community. By 2021, we were thrilled to return to in-person festivities, bringing the joy of live performances back to our community annually.
This year, we’re embracing a sense of renewal at the SJC Jubilee, viewing it as a re-birth. With new staff members and the addition of a new member organization in the building, we are excited about the fresh energy and ideas they bring. Join us as we celebrate these changes and continue our mission to uplift our neighbors and advocate for social justice!
