Sonya Clark
press release: ARTIST TALK: SONYA CLARK, Friday, April 12 • 7-8 PM
“Many of my family members taught me the value of a well-told story and so it is that I value the stories held in objects.”
Sonya Clark is celebrated for conceptually sophisticated, finely crafted work that builds upon the familiar—a comb, beads, a dollar bill, a flag—to tell stories about history, culture, race, and identity. Hemi, pictured above, is part of Clark’s Wig Series, which re-imagines the Fibonacci mathematical series through the rituals and traditions of African and African American hairstyling.
Sonya Clark is a Professor of Art at Amherst College in Massachusetts. She will offer a talk on her work this Friday evening. Admission is free; reservations are required to guarantee seating. Reservations can be made here.
