press release: Athletes will compete in athletics (track and field). The Hometown Games have taken place for 15 years in Oregon. The event serves as a qualifier for the State Summer Games held at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point on June 9-10, 2016.
Opening Ceremonies will include the Parade of Athletes as teams enter the stadium, while law enforcement officers will participate in the torch run and the lighting of the cauldron that signifies the start of the games. Other activities include Fans in the Stands where enthusiastic volunteers will be handing out thunder-sticks and hand clappers to families and friends. Healthy Habits will be offering free health education on dental hygiene. Unified relays will also be part of the action where teams consisting of athletes with and without an intellectual disability will combine to race in the 4x100 relay.
