Starting and Maintaining a Perennial Garden
Waunakee Library 201 N. Madison St., Waunakee, Wisconsin 53597
This talk will provide advice on how to establish and then maintain a perennial garden. Key elements for a successful garden are matching the plants with the soil, correct watering practices and amount of garden sun. Considering these elements is the basis for the adage: “Right plant, Right place”. The steps in laying out a garden will be presented along with a discussion of the soil requirements of pH, nutrients, and organic material. The importance of mulching and plant hardiness ratings will be discussed along with suggestions on how to select sun loving, shade tolerant and drought tolerant plants. The goal will be to learn how to have your plants “thrive and not just survive.”
