Storytellers Cody Vogel, Erik Pettersen, Brent West and Felicia Ynocencio prepare to take the stage at Chrysalis’ 1st annual storytelling event on March 7, 2023.
Madison nonprofit Chrysalis supports individuals facing mental health or substance abuse challenges by providing training and work opportunities in the community. “Shared Threads: Stories That Weave Us Together” features stories of healing from program participants and Chrysalis staff, with emcee Araceli Esparza. This storytelling event takes place at Chrysalis, 1342 Dewey Court; it’s free to attend, but donations to support the organization’s work via The Big Share are encouraged.
media release: On Tuesday, March 5, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., Chrysalis Inc. will host its 2nd annual storytelling event, "Shared Threads: Stories That Weave Us Together.” Doors open at 5 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
'Shared Threads' will feature a lineup of ten storytellers—current program participants, community peer support providers, and Chrysalis staff—who will courageously share their personal stories of healing. It is the culmination of a three-part storytelling mentorship facilitated by Jen Rubin and Takeyla Benton from Inside Stories podcast and The Moth Madison StorySLAM.
Local motivational speaker and entrepreneur Araceli Esparza is the event emcee, with a colorful atmosphere provided by lighting designer and visual artist Ben Smith. This event dovetails with The Big Share on March 5, an online day of giving hosted annually by Community Shares of Wisconsin, of which Chrysalis is a member nonprofit.
Staff, volunteers, and Chrysalis Pops, the organization’s seed-to-sales social enterprise, will provide light refreshments during the event.
Although this event is FREE and OPEN to the public, Chrysalis is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and we need your support to continue our mission: promoting mental health and substance use recovery in our community by supporting work opportunities that encourage hope, healing, and wellness. Please consider donating to our Big Share––any amount helps. Donate: https://www.thebigshare.org/organizations/chrysalis
