Walkabout: Summer’s here, time to get off your butt and enjoy a naturalist-led nature walk in the Capital Springs Recreation Area. Bring your binocs and observe the woodland, grassland and marsh flora and fauna; you might even find some errant squirtles and zubats.
press release: The public is welcome to join a naturalist-led nature walk focusing on summer birds and plants at 9 AM on Saturday, July 16, at Capital Springs Recreation Area, a 2,500-acre park located in southeast Madison. Families are welcome!
Organized by the Friends of Capital Springs, the route will take participants through a portion of the Lewis Nine Springs E-Way, a large unit within Capital Springs Recreation Area. Leaders will look and listen for resident birds, as well as observe interesting plants and insects in woodland, grassland and marsh habitats – feel free to bring guidebooks.
The walk will take about two hours, and all terrain is flat. Please bring drinking water, insect spray and appropriate sun protection. Binoculars are highly recommended. Please meet at the Lewis Nine Springs E-Way Trailhead parking lot at 1947 Moorland Road, Madison, at 9 AM.
The Friends of Capital Springs Recreation Area is a non-profit organization whose mission is to connect visitors to the Recreation Area’s natural resources through educational, recreational, archeological and scientific opportunities.
