Each spring students in the Sustainability Leadership class “International Engagement: Sustainable Community Wellbeing,” travel to Alto Cayma to develop sustainable solutions to the people’s challenges of poverty. Alto Cayma is a settlement on the outskirts of the city of Arequipa, on the western slope of the Andes Mountains in southern Peru. In recent years the program has focused on agricultural practices and food systems in the settlement - from permaculture (combining natural landscaping with edible gardening) to building solar ovens. This year, the students will be teaching leadership and group facilitation skills.
We hope you’ll join us to learn more about the community of Alto Cayma, and the innovative, sustainable solutions that are helping to bring well being to the community.
