Terracycling: New Ways to Recycle at the Monona Library
Monona Library 1000 Nichols Road, Monona, Wisconsin
press release: The next Eco Action Tuesdays will feature two Monona residents who are champions for the environment: Matt Bolha will talk about Styrofoam recycling and Teresa Radermacher will show & tell us about Terracycling. Terra-WHAT?
TerraCycling is a new way to recycle a wider variety of items used in homes, schools and offices than what is currently accepted by municipal recycling services. “The Library is happy to partner with the community to be a collection point for TerraCycling,” said Sally Buffat, Business Coordinator at Monona Public Library. “Not a lot of people are familiar with TerraCycling yet. So whenever I walk through the Library cafe and have an opportunity to talk to someone, I'll point out the TerraCycle bins and explain what can be collected.” Sally went on to say, “People either know about TerraCycling because they have a kiddo at Winnequah School or they're surprised to learn that they can bring to the library things like used toothpaste and deodorant tubes, spent highlighters and markers, replacement water filters, not to mention chip bags and energy bar wrappers.”
Did you know that Monona Library also collects Styrofoam for recycling? People can bring in everything from egg cartons to molded Styrofoam from appliance packaging. Matt Bolha will show & tell us what Uniek Inc., based in Waunakee, does with the Styrofoam.
Bring your cast-off packaging and your questions to this Eco-Action Tuesdays program on January 26, 6:30 pm, Monona Public Library, 1000 Nichols Road. See www.mononagrove.org/we/terracycle.cfm for a list of things to collect. Older children and teens are welcome to attend!
Eco-Action Tuesdays are sponsored by The Natural Step Monona, The Monona Library, MG&E, and Whole Foods Market, which provides refreshments for each program. More information is available at MononaLibrary.org or by calling 608-222-6127.
