Thaddeus Tukes-Hanah Jon Taylor Quartet.
Chicago-based composer and vibraphonist Thaddeus Tukes and Madison sax and flute master Hanah Jon Taylor are joining up for an evening at Cafe Coda. What will these gifted improvisers and their fellow quartet members (bassist Darius Savage and percussionist Batume) come up with? The best way to find out is to attend the show, of course.
$25.
Presented as the "World's best vibraphonist" by World Expo 2020 in Dubai, composer and percussionist Thaddeus Tukes honors the legacy of the vibraphone within the jazz tradition and beyond. His virtuosity and creativity "brings poetry to the vibraphone" (Chicago Tribune, 2019), which has captivated audiences from Carnegie Hall in New York to the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Thaddeus says he is a proud practitioner of the "Chicago Vibe," and hails his hometown as the foundation of the modern jazz aesthetic. The future of the jazz tradition has arrived, and Thaddeus Tukes is at the forefront.
A native of Chicago and longtime Madison resident, Hanah Jon Taylor is arguably a preeminent saxophonist/flutist of the 'creative music' scene; a catalyst, organizer and educator. With a career spanning over 50 years, Taylor has performed throughout Europe, the Caribbean and the States as a leader and featured artist, appearing with songwriter/folk artist Richie Havens, percussionist Steve McCall, the Colson Unity Troupe, saxophonist Roscoe Mitchell, pianist Jobic LeMasson, the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble, bassists Rafael Garrett and Malachi Favors, and the Great Black Music Ensemble and the Sun Ra Archestra.
