The Big Lonesome
Brink Lounge 701 E. Washington Ave., Suite 105, Madison, Wisconsin 53703
press release: Boston indie-rock band The Big Lonesome are about to embark on a midwest tour in support of Fascination, their new EP. Fascination will be available for streaming and purchase on all major online distributors October 15 and physical copies will be available at all tour dates.
Originally started as a solo project by Chad Gosselin (guitar/vocals) in 2009, The Big Lonesome has grown over the years to become a four piece tapestry of shoegazey indie rock with a sensibility for pop. Brother Luke Gosselin (guitar/lap steel/vocals), Sam Okon (bass) and Rob DeSousa (drums/percussion) join Chad to perform music that has been described as, "The Rolling Stones covering Sonic Youth," and has drawn comparisons to Guided by Voices and early Wilco. In late 2016, the band made a concerted effort to tour aggressively in 2017. To that effect, Chad Gosselin cashed in his savings and bought a 12 passenger van and Sam Okon quit his warehouse job. Since January 2017, The Big Lonesome has peddled their brand of story-driven indie rock at over 100 shows in 17 states, including South by Southwest in Austin, TX and a headlining show at The Middle East Downstairs in their hometown of Boston, MA.
Fascination, the band’s upcoming EP, is an introspective exploration of personal relationships backed by lush, grungy guitars and dreamy leads. Closing track “Everytown, USA” harkens to the band’s early Americana/country influences and explores Chad Gosselin’s experience at the final show at iconic T.T. the Bear’s Place in Cambridge, MA and the loss of culture hubs in American cities. The EP’s title and artwork, which was inspired by a dilapidated amusement park in the Gosselins’ hometown of Hull, MA, serves as an ironic supplement to the disillusioned vibe of “Everytown, USA” and pays homage to faded glory and heydays. Together they encapsulate The Big Lonesome’s message of supporting and protecting local arts and culture in communities before they too fade into obscurity.
