Ira Helfand, MD, is a member of the Steering Committee for the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) , Co-president of International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW), and Past-president of Physicians for Social Responsibility. He has published articles and lectured widely on the medical and long-term environmental consequences of nuclear war. He played a crucial role in the negotiation of the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in the summer of 2017.
Dr. Helfand was educated at Harvard College and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He currently practices as an internist and urgent care physician.
