The Prairie Enthusiasts Field Trip
June 13 (Saturday)
Sugar River Oak Savanna
Come see spiderwort flowers in full glory before they close up for the day. This diverse 9-acre oak savanna is a preserve of The Prairie Enthusiasts, managed by the Empire-Sauk Chapter. Although it still shows some signs of past use as a pasture, 39 years of frequent fire has fostered a remarkable recovery of native prairie and savanna vegetation. There are now nearly 400 native plant species present. Besides spiderwort, there should be pale spiked lobelia, rock rose, wood lily, and many other flowers in bloom.
