The Prairie Enthusiasts Field Trip
Dragonflies and Damselflies of Mounds View Grasslands Iowa County
Join us as dragonfly expert, Bill Smith, leads us on a tour of the Schurch-Thomson and Shea units of Mounds View Grasslands looking for adult dragonflies and damselflies. Bill will tell us about the natural history of this interesting group of insects as we search. While the adults of some species also hunt in the grasslands, we will focus our search on the various stream, spring and wetland habitats of the site. We are just beginning efforts to learn which species live at the site, so come explore and learn with us! Bring close focusing binoculars, and a picnic lunch. Meet at the barn. We may drive to the Shea unit after lunch.
