Like anyone living paycheck to paycheck, those who make art for a living are often caught short of funds in an emergency. The Madison Area Music Association’s MAMA Cares fund was established to help cover health care costs for local musicians in need. This fundraiser concert is always an all-star cross-section of local artists; this year should keep the crowd moving with sets by blues warriors Madtown Mannish Boys, Tony Castañeda Latin Jazz Band (pictured) and the mobile dance party that is VO5.
press release: The Madison Area Music Association (MAMA) is pleased to announce it’s 2nd annual Mama Cares Winter Ball to be held Saturday, Feb. 16, from 7PM to midnight at the High Noon Saloon. Formed in 2015, MAMA Cares is a program established to provide financial assistance to local musicians and their families during times of hardship.
For a suggested minimum donation of $10, attendees will enjoy a night of local music featuring performances by the Tony Castañeda Latin Jazz Band, Madtown Mannish Boys and VO5. The night’s activities will be emceed by The Rockin’ Dentist, Dr. Chris Kammer. An auction and raffle will also benefit MAMA Cares with 100 percent of proceeds going to those in need.
The Mama Cares program began as a result of a benefit for local musician, Robert J.’s family, after his son Jacy Ray was hospitalized for emergency brain surgery back in 2015. In the past three years, Mama Cares has raised and donated over $20K to aid Madison area musicians and their families in their time of need!
