Turkeyfest 8: Fire Heads, Blaha, Fox Face, German Art Students
Mickey's Tavern 1524 Williamson St., Madison, Wisconsin 53703
Fire Heads members (L-R) Bobby Hussy, Alex Ross and Tyler Fassnacht (missing is bassist Erick Fruehling).
This marks the eighth year that Bobby Hussy’s Kind Turkey Records has hosted its annual Turkeyfest, and this incarnation promises to be another wild three-day celebration of eccentric punk rock. Highlights include local favorites The Hussy, Wood Chickens, Fire Heads (pictured), Dumb Vision and German Art Students, as well as a handful of national and international acts, including Kiwi garage punks BloodBags and Memphis-based darkwave outfit Sweet Knives, a reboot of Lost Sounds minus the late, great Jay Reatard. Schedule below.
KIND TURKEY RECORDS PRESENTS: TURKEYFEST 8
Saturday, October 14 - Mickey's Tavern - FREE - 10 PM
FIRE HEADS (Big Neck Records, Rare Plant, Goodbye Boozy): Madison Boy Band. Speed freak quartet! Playing hits from the upcoming S/T Fire Heads LP and the new 7" coming out via Italy's Goodbye Boozy Records at this show! The band formed half a decade ago as "Fire Retarded" and was more of a straight garage rock group before turning quite a bit more jagged and angular. New Name. Newish Sound. The new record is noisier, faster and snottier than ever! For fans of: Motorhead, The Coachwhips, The Stooges, Sheer Mag, A Giant Dog, The Reatards.
BLAHA (Kind Turkey Records, Slovenly): Minneapolis garage-punkers with hints of surf sprinkled in! Features Mike Blaha of THE BLIND SHAKE fame filled out by some other familiar Minneapolis faces! Stomping, direct and extremely powerful! Hot off a European tour! Kind Turkey was lucky to release the debut cassette (which sold out immediately) earlier this year, and we are proud to release a brand new limited edition cassette at this show in celebration of Turkeyfest 8! Pick one up quick or they'll be gone like last time! For fans of The Blind Shake, Thee Oh Sees, Ex-Cult, Rocket From The Crypt
FOX FACE (Dirtnap Records, Chop Haus): Multi-faceted quartet from Milwaukee, self described as "Witchy Punk." Spooky stuff! Debut LP coming in November on the recently Madison re-transplanted Dirtnap Records! Members of The Midwest Beat, Static Eyes, Gut Reactions, ETC. For fans of Naked Raygun, The Runaways, Siouxsie & the Banshees, The Donnas.
GERMAN ART STUDENTS Madison's longest running power pop-punk outfit! They'll be playing in rare and raw 3-piece mode for this show! Hot off a 20th anniversary show at High Noon that further cemented their reputation as excellent, hook heavy rock n roll with plenty of bite! Witty and wonky punk!!! For fans of The Replacements, The Buzzcocks, X, The Pixies, Early Veruca Salt, GBV, ETC.
