on June 19-21, the department will hold the second annual Summer Dance Pre-Collegiate Invitational—a three-day weekend intensive for regional dance studios and their pre-collegiate students that features a variety of master classes in Contemporary Dance, Ballet, Pilates, and African forms, a studio repertory showing (Jun 19), a faculty showing (Jun 20) and a showing of new choreography developed in a rigorous choreolab that culminates in a final performance on stage (Jun 21).
The department will also host Norwegian guest artist Tine Aspaas from June 4-21. Aspaas will set a work on our dance students to be presented in our summer dance concert “Solstice” the afternoon of Jun 20 at 12:45 p.m. (note time change) featuring an interactive talkback session with dance faculty and students. Aspaas will also teach a series of master classes to UW-Madison dance students, our international visitors from China, and our pre-collegiate dance students.
About Tine Aspaas
Aspaas graduated from the Oslo Academy of the Arts and has continued her education and development in New York, Los Angeles, Israel, Italy, Netherland and Sweden. She has been a much sought after performer and her career has spanned contemporary performances in leading Norwegian companies and numerous musicals, as well as several larger televised productions such as the Nobel peace price concert. Her choreographic works has been presented in Italy, New York and Norway. Aspaas was titled “Norwegian ambassador of dance 2014.” To learn more about her work go to tineaspaas.com.
