SAIL is an alternative program whose mission is to expand the instructional opportunities for students who benefit from a non-traditional academic setting.
As one student reported…
“Painting murals can help students see things differently, can encourage creativity and help them express themselves. Painting murals is interesting and is an amazing opportunity.”
Working with DAMA lead artists Alicia Rheal and Emida Roller, SAIL students - who were initially hesitant - became excited to participate in the mural project. The mural tells the story of those who work and attend school within the building – and were interviewed by the students. Students' mural efforts enabled them to also participate in the Dane Arts Buy Local Night Market (DABL) that was held in October. SAIL art was sold, and the students were invited to exhibit their art at two venues - the UW-Law & Entrepreneurship Clinic and No Fear Dentistry - both exhibits currently on display.
