Certain classical pieces are classics for good reason, and Vivaldi's The Four Seasons is one of them — amazingly not even a steady roster of weddings has robbed it of its freshness. The WCO inventively pairs the traditional string piece with The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires by Argentinian Astor Piazzolla. Guest violinist for the pieces is Alexander Sitkovetsky. Composer Michael Tippett’s Little Music for String Orchestra is also on the program.
press release: Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra presents The Four Seasons on Friday, January 27, at 7:30 PM in Capitol Theater at the Overture Center for the Arts with returning star violinist Alexander Sitkovetsky.
A celebration of strings marks our second Masterworks. The concert opens with prominent English composer of the late twentieth century, Michael Tippett’s Little Music for String Orchestra. Sitkovetsky will be featured in two works with a unique pairing of The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires by Astor Piazzolla alongside the iconic Four Seasons by Vivaldi. “We’re striving to bring people closer to classical music, showcasing the breadth and depth of composers and artists creating absolutely remarkable work,” said Andrew Sewell, music director.
The Four Seasons will take place on Friday, January 27 at 7:30 PM in Capitol Theater at the Overture Center for the Arts. In addition to the concert, ticketholders can attend the pre-concert lecture with Sewell and Sitkovetsky along with core musician Wes Luke. The pre-concert lecture begins at 6:30 PM in Wisconsin Studio on the third floor of Overture Center. Ticketholders are also invited to attend a post-concert event at Lucille on King Street, and will receive 50% off their first drink when WCO tickets are presented.
