Wisconsin’s energy portfolio: Finding the right mix topic at Jan. 20 Wisconsin Cleantech Network forum

Historically a coal-dependent state for electrical energy generation, Wisconsin stands at a crossroads in building a next-generation system that makes sense for users, producers and the environment.

The forum will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Wisconsin Energy Institute, 1552 University Ave., on the UW-Madison campus, refreshments and snacks will be provided. Follow this link to a map of available parking. Cost is included for WIN members, $10 for general admission in advance and $20 at the door. Register by Jan. 19.

Hear from experts who will discuss a range of generation and transmission options that could shape Wisconsin’s energy future. “Finding the right mix” will include overviews of alternative energy sources such as wind and solar power; proposals to add natural-gas fired baseload capacity; advances in nuclear generation technologies and current interstate transmission line plans to serve Panelists thus far include:

Michael Corradini, director, Wisconsin Energy Institute; UW-Madison professor of engineering physics; Michael Vickerman, program and policy director, RENEW Wisconsin. The 2016 RENEW Policy Summit will be held Jan. 21 in Madison; Greg Levesque, manager, environmental and local relations, American Transmission Co.

“Concerns over climate change and other market forces, including America’s new-found energy independence, are changing how states such as Wisconsin view their electrical energy portfolios,” said Tom Still, president of the Wisconsin Technology Council.

The Cleantech Network forums focus on the needs and challenges faced by entrepreneurs and others working in Wisconsin’s clean technology sectors. That includes power systems, controls, alternative fuels and more.
