Young, Gifted and Black Coalition Candlelight Vigil
Penn Park 2101 Fisher St., Madison, Wisconsin 53713
press release:
Join YGB tonight at Penn Park
Many of us are grieving for the victims of racist terrorism in Charleston. Join the Young Gifted and Black in community as we create space for that grief and honor the lives of the victims. We will be hosting a candlelight vigil today, June 19, at 9pm at Penn Park.
While in our hearts there is no way to understand this type of senseless violence, we know this tragedy is symptomatic of white supremacy, born at least in part by the state violence that has plagued our nation for centuries. Though painful and shocking, we know this type of violence is possible because of the colonial relationship the Black community has to the rest of the country.
"We as members of the Black community are deeply impacted and thus our investment in justice and healing is vital," says coalition member M Adams. Please join us as we begin the healing process and demand justice.
