Young, Gifted and Black Coalition
City-County Building 210 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Madison, Wisconsin 53703
press release:
Young Gifted and Black is encouraging the community to come to a teach-in at the City County Building and then to the meeting of the county's Personnel and Finance Committee. The teach-in will begin at tomorrow, Monday, April 27, 5:30 and the meeting starts at 6, where the committee will be discussing Resolution 556.
Resolution 556 addresses the renovating of the Dane County Jail as well as investing in alternatives to incarceration, including black-led solutions. We encourage the community to come and make their voices heard to let the board know that we continue to demand that the county "build the people, not the jail," and to put taxpayer dollars to productive, rather than destructive, use.
YGB has rallying the community for several months and pressuring the County Board to reconsider use of county funds. Resolution 556 reflects the community's hard work. It is a step in the right direction, but the fight is not over. Please join us tomorrow.
