Saturday's sunny, 75 degree day was the perfect backdrop for the opening of the outdoor Dane County Farmers' Market. Locals and tourists alike flocked to the square, stocking up on fresh spinach, multicolored pansies and spicy cheese bread. Vendors chatted with customers, providing cooking instructions or produce origins. Political and social action groups set up camp on the Capitol steps, advocating for everything from canine cancer research to women in agriculture. More than just a great way to start your Saturday or stock up on scones, the Farmers' Market is a sure sign of the coming summer.
