Just off Regent Street at Allen, humble. has a charming two-table cafe.
Pie is back.
Madison has been wanting for a dedicated pie bakery since the departure of LMNO'Pies, and humble., a small storefront at 10 S. Allen St. (just off Regent), has finally filled the void. The small, charming cafe (two tables; Just Coffee and tea are available) is just the kind of sweet stop every neighborhood should have.
Everything is baked from scratch by sisters Shelly Cross and Jill Long, with an emphasis on locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. Crusts are all-butter; lard crusts are available on request, and they're working on a vegan version.
The focus is on the glass bakery case -- filled, mornings, with such treats as hand pies, fruit galettes, puffy facsimiles of "pop tarts," and petite-size pies. Savory pies start coming out of the kitchen closer to lunchtime, as do the full-size (nine-inch) pies.
humble. is open 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
