We have always subscribed to the position that "you don't know unless you ask," which is why, every year, we ask Isthmus readers questions regarding their favorite things in Madison. We always learn a lot from the answers.
Of course this year, America has discovered that certain parties -- for example, the National Security Agency -- do get to know without asking.
We still like our way better. It's polite, it's honest, and it's neighborly.
While there is always some feistiness in the poll responses, on the whole it seems that readers love Madison and are more than willing to share their opinions about where to shop, dine, dance and goof off.
When we asked what award you'd give Madison if you could, readers were effusive. "The Cultured Pearl of the Midwest Award," wrote one respondent -- "so much great art, music, food, sporting and community activities for such a small town!" The "Most Isthmusses (Isthmussi?) per capita (capiti?) Award," suggested another. It's not clear whether this is meant to refer to the land mass, or copies of the paper, but that'd be "Isthmi," we think.
Ultimately, readers gave Madison the "Best Darn City...Period" award.
Thank you to everyone who participated. And to learn more...read on.
