July 14, 1949 I, David Blaska, am born. My grandfather is a member of the state Assembly. My father will be elected to the same body 10 years later.
1949-1994 The Great Interregnum. I learn many things, will forget most of them.
April 5, 1994 Am elected to the Dane County Board, winning 970 to 776 over Christine Sarbacker. A truly nice woman. Lives down the street. Heavy with child during the campaign. I make an issue of it.
March 20, 1996 Am reelected 1,344 to 1,162 over Karen West, anointed by Mark Pocan as the candidate who was going to defeat me. In many ways, the most accomplished opponent I ever face.
April 7, 1998 Defeat Thomas Cook, 933 to 796. Cook is the only Progressive Dane candidate to lose that year. I make an issue of his party affiliation.
April 4, 2000 Trounce Vern Andren, 1,319 to 807. This guy is not put up by the libs or anyone else. Just a citizen who decided to run. A rarity, but it happens.
April 2, 2002 My one and only free ride! No opponent. Instead, I mismanage Jim Campbell's County Board re-election campaign to defeat in the primary, and help my brother Mike win a close race in the spring general election on our native Sun Prairie hunting grounds.
April 6, 2004 Edge past Maureen Marrinan 827 to 790. Kathleen Falk's son runs Maureen's campaign and, as payback, Falk refuses to appoint me to any county commissions.
April 4, 2006 Lose to Matt "The Usurper" Veldran, 839 to 1,060, in an election that coincides with the "U.S. Out of Iraq" referendum. Afterward, I join Winston Churchill in the wilderness.
