UP: Christina Thompson. Miss Madison beats out 31 other contestants from around the state to be named Miss Wisconsin. The 22-year-old, who tied for first place in the talent competition with a violin solo, will now represent Wisconsin in the Miss America pageant this fall.
DOWN: UW-Madison. An animal rights group files a complaint with federal regulators alleging that the university's research lab violated the Animal Welfare Act. Stop Animal Exploitation Now, citing reports showing that monkeys suffered infections, fractures and other injuries, says the UW was negligent and provided inadequate veterinary care. The UW says the incidents have already been addressed and nothing inappropriate happened.
