UP: David Prosser. The incumbent state Supreme Court justice's fight for reelection is far from over, but his chances look more promising after Waukesha County clerk Kathy Nickolaus, who used to work for Prosser at the GOP caucus, discovers 14,000 uncounted votes from Brookfield, giving Prosser a 7,500-vote lead over challenger JoAnne Kloppenburg. Critics demand an investigation; a recount is likely; both candidates have hired lawyers.
DOWN: William Gardner. The president and CEO of Wisconsin & Southern Railroad Co. is charged with two felony counts of violating campaign finance laws. Gardner allegedly asked his employees to contribute to Gov. Scott Walker and other candidates, saying he'd reimburse them with company money. Gardner, who says he didn't realize this was illegal, has agreed to a deal that would bring two years of probation and $166,900 in fines.
