UP: James Thomson. The UW-Madison stem cell researcher combines his three companies into one, Cellular Dynamics International. Thomson also got $18 million in financing for the new company, which has 50 employees. The company grows stem cells for pharmaceutical testing. Good that someone's doing well in this sucky economy.
DOWN: Igor. The 130-pound bull mastiff is sentenced to death by Dane County Circuit Court Judge Juan Colas. Igor has bitten two people, including one person at the Dane County Humane Society, where he is being held. In August, Igor attacked a 13-pound Bedlington terrier, who had to be euthanized because of her injuries. An animal behaviorist offered to rehabilitate Igor, but Colas ruled against this, since there was no plan for covering the $2,000 to $5,000 cost.
