UP: Joseph Frey. When he was released from prison in July after serving 20 years for a rape he didn't commit, Frey had no place to live, no job and less than a week's worth of medication to treat a degenerative bone disease. The Wisconsin State Journal reports that the 54-year-old has since found his bearings. Porchlight helped him secure housing, St. Vincent de Paul helped him get medicine, and two filmmakers are profiling him. "The community in my opinion has been extraordinary," Frey tells the paper. "I couldn't have asked for a better place to be."
DOWN: Dogs. An injunction on using dogs in wolf hunts is about to be lifted, making Wisconsin the only state to allow it. Patricia McConnell, an expert on animal behavior, tells the Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism: "Some of these dogs die painful deaths, in a blood sport that in some cases is no better than organized dog fights."
