UP: Madison schools. Mayor Paul Soglin says he wants more collaboration between the city and the schools in helping improve education. He rules out radical measures such as a city takeover of schools, but suggests that sharing facilities, aligning health and social services and lobbying for reform are all possibilities.
DOWN: Dane County conservatives. Although they were already in the minority, conservatives on the Dane County Board fare poorly in Tuesday's election. Conservatives Jack Martz, Don Imhoff and Mike Willett all lost to liberal challengers, giving progressives dominance on the board. Conservative Eileen Bruskewitz, who did not run for reelection, fears "borrowing could go dangerously high."
