UP: Monroe Street hotel. After a bitter fight, plans for a new four-story hotel across from Camp Randall are approved. Ald. Julia Kerr had appealed the city's initial approval of the project, asking for a review of deed restrictions. The Plan Commission added a number of restrictions to plans for the 48-room hotel, such as requiring special security on each guest-room floor on Badger football game days.
DOWN: J.B. Van Hollen. The attorney general is chastised by former Special Agent Elizabeth Feagles over recent personnel dustups. "This administration has proven it is willing to destroy the professional and personal lives of some of the most competent, dedicated, intelligent cops I have ever had the privilege to know," she writes. "I can only hope voters will remember this debacle in November 2010." Good luck with that: A new survey of more than 500 probable Wisconsin voters found that 61% could not identify Van Hollen, the state's highest Republican officeholder.
