UP: Same-day voter registration. Gov. Scott Walker pledges to veto any legislation to end same-day voter registration because the Government Accountability Board estimates it will cost the state $5.2 million to implement. "There's no way we're spending money on something like that," he tells the Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism.
DOWN: Motorists. The Wisconsin Transportation Finance and Policy Commission - a citizens' commission created in Gov. Walker's last budget - recommends the state raise the gas tax by 5 cents a gallon to help pay for transportation needs over the next 10 years. The commission also recommends a 1.02-cent mileage fee for passenger cars and light trucks and increasing the fees for driver's licenses and commercial registrations. Wisconsin currently has the 14th-highest gas tax in the country, at 51.3 cents a gallon
