U.S. District Judge Rudolph Randa orders a halt to the secret John Doe investigation, and in the process reveals that conservative groups and the campaign of Gov. Walker were indeed the focus. The probe was looking into allegations that targets of recall elections, like Walker, had illegally collaborated with conservative groups such as Wisconsin Club for Growth. Randa orders the state prosecutors to cease all work on the case and relieves any targets from having to comply.
DOWN: Secessionists. Delegates at the state Republican Party convention overwhelmingly reject a tea party proposal to affirm Wisconsin's right to secede from the United States. Looks like we're stuck here.
