UP: Tammy Baldwin. Polls released this week show U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-Madison) surging in her race for the U.S. Senate against former Gov. Tommy Thompson. The Marquette Law School poll released Wednesday found Baldwin taking a 50%-41% lead, reversing results from August. Two other recent polls with ties to Baldwin's campaign show her leading by 3 to 5 points. A poll by Quinnipiac University, The New York Times and CBS finds the candidates tied.
DOWN: Meadowood. Meadowood Ace Hardware, a fixture in the Meadowood neighborhood for more than 25 years, announces it will close by the end of October. Owner Dennis Lochner tells the Wisconsin State Journal that fears over crime hurt sales. "[Customers] are choosing to go someplace where they feel safe instead of coming to this neighborhood."
