The Department of Natural Resources awards a $500,000 grant to the foundation, a group with strong ties to Republicans, to promote fishing and hunting in the state. It was the lone bidder for the contract, and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that it falsely claimed to have nonprofit status. Undeterred, the DNR is giving the group the money anyway.
DOWN: Camp Randall youth hawkers. Learfield Levy Foodservice, the company taking over concessions at Camp Randall, is not hiring middle and high school students to sell soft drinks in the stands during Badgers football games. For decades, it had been a first job for many Madison youths, as well as a way to get into the games.
