Robbers storm a side entrance to Grampa's Gun Shop at 1374 Williamson St., tying up 70-year-old owner Larry Gleasman with duct tape and stealing about 34 guns. Gleasman says most of the stolen guns are "junk" - not functional. But the robbery, he says, "has made me think about my retirement plans."

Police arrest Scott Krause, 34, and tentatively charge him with domestic arson for allegedly setting his own house, 1526 Comanche Glen, on fire after a domestic dispute. No one is hurt, but the fire causes $75,000 of damage.

The Associated Press releases details of a review of Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker, a Republican candidate for governor, showing that he has spent more than $24,000 on meals during his campaign. This despite his "brown-bag movement" claiming that he frugally packs his lunch every day.
Anthony Brown, who headed the city's Equal Opportunities Commission from 1994 to 2004, dies at the age of 59. See Bill Lueders' tribute here.
The State Journal details a report that finds systematic problems, not just one nurse's error, helped lead to a 16-year-old St. Mary's patient getting a lethal dose of an epidural drug in 2006. The nurse, Julie Thao, later pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor charges and was placed on probation.
A $1 million federal transportation grant is announced for a six-mile bike trail to connect the Badger State Trail in Fitchburg with the Capital City Trail in Madison. Construction is expected to begin this spring.

The state Department of Workforce Development announces that unemployment stood at 9.6% in January, up from 7.7% the year before. Dane County had the lowest rate of any county, at 6.3%.
